Short-Term Stay After Hospital Admission
Patients that have been admitted to a hospital for a minimum of three nights may have the option for a short-term stay in our center to receive 24-hour Nursing care and Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy up to seven-days each week. Patients may also request a short-term Respite in-patient stay for periods of a few days to several months.

Patients that require a permanent in-patient stay may be admitted from the Hospital, Assisted Living Facility or Home after receiving an admission order from their primary physician.

[review] => Monroe Rehab is helping my mother recover from breaking her hip. They have been kind and responsive in the nine months she has been there. With their support she is getting close to being able to move to a less intensive (AKA not skilled nursing) facility.
A special shout-out to the physical and occupational therapists. They have pushed my Mom when needed and advocated for her throughout.
She has been in four other facilities since breaking the hip and it is here that she has been most comfortable. I'm grateful for the care she has received at Monroe Rehab.

[review] => I had heard mixed reviews about Monroe rehabilitation but I'm so glad we chose this facility for my families care. The care he received was phenomenal. The entire staff, excluding a few assistants on night shift, were kind, compassionate and willing to help in any way. The unit manager. Rossi, was absolutely wonderful. I can't tell you how much she went out of her way to answer our questions and go above and beyond. We couldn't have gotten better care here. Don't hesitate to place your family member here.

It isn't what I was doing but it represented commendable patient concern IMO. Nevertheless, the place is a snake pit. The building is thick with the stench of urine. Communication among professionals is deplorable. My husband is a Viet Nam 'conflict' Agent Orange exposure victim who is in end stage renal failure. Some Atrium hospital employees including a particularly childish RN and a grossly misinformed discharge planner bullied my husband into going to this place after I had made 24/7 care arrangements for him at home. He was told that going to this place was the only way he'd receive dialysis. On his 1st day there, they forgot to get him to dialysis. My concern was immediately and thoroughly addressed by an RN but it could have been too late. The best option would be for me to sit there with my husband all the time. But that stench!//
On the day after I wrote the above review I went to my husband's room and found him in an almost comatose state. Both his blood sugar level and his temperature were dangerously low. NO ONE HAD NOTICED! Thank g-d I came by.
No one knew who the nurse was who I'd spoken to previously so I asked that documentation be checked. Blank stares. 'You DO document, don't you?' Blank stares. He has returned to the hospital by way of the ER and has been admitted.)
4/19/2024 IN ADDITION- WHY I HAVE NO INTENTION OF FOLLOWING UP ON THE OWNER'S SUGGESTION THAT I CALL - THE 2nd TIME MY HUSBAND MISSED DIALYSIS I repeatedly called the Monroe Rehab/Nursing Center and was told that no one could take my call since 'they' were in a meeting. It wasn't until I stated that I had contacted the STATE OF NC Nursing Home Complaint Office who had advised me to call once more and say my call was urgent that suddenly the meeting was over. Someone picked up the phone and asked 'how may I help you?' I gave her my name and about 2 sentences into how serious it was that my husband had now missed 2 dialysis treatments since arriving at Monroe Rehab, I said I found it difficult to believe that she didn't know why I was calling. I then listened to her seemingly prepared statement based largely on fabrication.
'PATIENT REFUSED TO GO TO DIALYSIS' was the claim. Why? Because he needed clothing and there was none. If this were true ( it wasn't. There was a neatly packed piece of luggage on the nightstand no more than 4 feet from the pillow on my husband's bed. It had clothing in it. I had shown it to a member of the staff when I brought it in the day before.) But let's pretend it wasn't there. Does no one on staff comprehend the dire importance of dialysis? Was there not a shred of extra clothing in the facility? Scrubs, perhaps? When's the last time you went to a public place wearing the inevitable, more convenient for staff, disposable diaper and a hospital gown with string thin ties for closure? I'm going to assume that there truly was a 6:30 AM phone call made to me so that I could do whatever was necessary to ensure my husband's arrival at dialysis. According to the Center's statement I did not answer the phone. And so that was it? 'PATIENT REFUSED TO GO TO DIALYSIS' and The Monroe Rehab Center is in the clear! What a stellar provider of services! What an asset to the community! So NO THANKS! I have no interest in speaking with you by phone and do not tell me I THINK I had a bad experience. I KNOW I did and my husband's experience was even worse than mine was.

[review] => Before someone responds with, please take down, this is for family and patient reviews of the facility, how one conducts themselves as an employer, has everything to do with how they provide care for their residents. Honoring your word, and treating employees as valuable assets, has everything to do with the quality of care you provide. You are only as good as your worst employee.
Just like the previous review, I too, was disregarded as nothing and insignificant. I interviewed for the director of nursing position on a last minute request last Friday via teams meeting online. I was immediately offered the position, and asked to move from another state, to be at the facility Monday morning. I accepted after reviewing facility online, and seeing they used to be a five star facility, currently a three star.
I packed my belongings, and spent every dime I had left securing residence for a week( spent 1500 total for rent and food). I took this leap of faith, because I was assured in writing by Heather Szmigiel, NHA from Southern Care Recruiting, I would immediately be reimbursed.
On Monday, I arrived, worked an entire day , and was assured throughout the day via text, that I would be taken care of. At five o’clock, the administrator and most staff leave, I’m standing outside in the cold, trying to find a way to pay for an Uber home.
Upon arriving home around six thirty, I immediately fix supper due to not eating all day. I completed cooking, to check a text message that my position was no longer needed. All for asking for some kind of reimbursement to be able to pay for Uber to get to and from work. I have all text messages of being promised.
Now throughout my day, I witnessed very compassionate employees delivering care to residents. I personally helped with prompt feeding of residents in the dining room. Not once did I see anyone sitting at nurses stations with call lights going off. I rarely saw anyone sitting, unless they were charting. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with an almost unbearable urine smell. I stated the the smell didn’t match the rating. This means , in my experience, to have a smell of this degree, residents aren’t being changed or bathed. I was told housekeeping was mostly gone the weekend, and yes, there was an issue of baths not being done. So when you treat employees like poo, you’re probably ok with your residents sitting in poo. I’m in another state without any money, and no job , for panicking to receive what I was promised.

[review] => I had an interview scheduled with Jamie for an open position for over a week and took the day off of work to prepare for it. I received a phone call from the receptionist 30 minutes before I was about to leave saying that they were canceling my interview because they already filled the position. If this is the way they treat prospective employees, I can only imagine how they treat their actual employees. Dodged a bullet for sure.

It was evident that the staff members formed meaningful connections with the residents, creating a sense of familiarity and trust.
The facility itself was well-maintained and designed with the comfort of the residents in mind. The rooms were clean, spacious, and tastefully decorated, providing a cozy and homely ambiance. The common areas were thoughtfully arranged to encourage social interaction and engagement among the residents, fostering a sense of community and companionship.
One aspect that truly stood out during my visit was the level of personalized care provided by the dedicated nursing staff. They also allow refrigerators in the rooms of the residents for any late night or regular snacking the residents may want to do.
Lastly, the communication and involvement of family members in the care process were exemplary. The staff maintained open lines of communication, providing regular updates and welcoming family members' input and feedback. This transparent and collaborative approach reassured families that their loved ones were receiving the best possible care.
In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend Monroe Rehabilitation Center to anyone seeking a nursing home that goes above and beyond in providing compassionate care. From the nurturing staff to the comfortable accommodations and engaging activities, every aspect of this nursing home is designed to enhance the quality of life for its residents. [review] => My brother, Robert Turner, who was very sick was admitted to Monroe Rehab in August of 2022. He still has a way to go, but the progress he has made there is unbelievable. This is due to the great care and love he receives there from everyone everyday. There are too many people to name and tell what they have done for him and continue to do for him. Everyone is so good to him. Every department is great to work with. They are all so helpful and kind. I will give you just one example so you can see the love and care my brother receives. I do not live in NC. Joyce Hoskins sends me lots of pictures and videos of my brother. She sends me pictures of him doing walking therapy, playing bingo, and pictures from all the wonderful activities, parties and events they have for the residents. Not many centers would do something like that. They all make him feel loved. If my brother can’t be at home, I am glad that he is in Monroe Rehab. Thanks to Everyone!!

[review] => Giving a place even a star when they do not have toilet paper for their patrons for an entire weekend would be a waste. I have witnessed abuse while the staff stays updated on their cell phones.
There are some very kind and helpful staff but in the grand scheme of things, maybe 1/10. And does anyone who reads these negative comments notice, their response is the exact same to everyone.
Not to mention, my mother fell at this facility after spending around 2 and a half months there. I was told she slipped on water on the floor.
Staff will let the patients scream for hours on end, I have witnessed this myself.

The rooms are filthy, the staff takes several hours to respond to your help button, the TV goes out for days at a time,and the senior staff does not care. Three days ago I screamed for 3 hours for help. I had had a bowl movement and it took 3 hours for them to come clean me.
If you really care about your loved ones, do not put them in this facility.

[review] => My mother was there for 2 weeks and developed stage 3 bed soars on her legs and heels. I believe this was one of the major setbacks in her recovery, ultimately contributing to her demise. The administrator, Melissa Murphy, cares about the facility more than the care of patients. Family didn't feel heard or supported by the staff. Would not recommend sending your loved ones there. I have completely lost faith in our health care system and it all started from this facility. I hope the state builds a case and shuts them down.

[review] => My mother has been a resident at Monroe Rehab for 4 months. It took a few weeks for the staff to get to know mom and her family. When I first saw the inside of the building,, I was not impressed. It's an older building and needs some repairs and updates. But when it comes to her care. I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised. My mom is well taken care of. The nurses and CNA's are attentive and care for their patients. There is no facility that will be perfect and take care of a family member like the family would at home, but I am pleased with her care. Great administrator.

She informed me the admissions staff was on call during the weekends. She gave me the phone number to the admissions director . When I called her answered all my questions and more (on a weekend) . Ms. Harris was very knowledgeable and friendly. She was very patient and kind as I have no idea where to begin this process.It’s nice to know good customer service still exists.

[review] => The is a wonderful place for anyone looking to place their love ones. Despite the few negative reviews, my family took a chance on this place and they more than lived up to their 5star rating. I understand that you can’t please everyone and sometimes diagnoses and reality are some times hard to accept but these folk go above and beyond the call of duty.Aja in admissions made our admission process as breeze (even answering questions and working on the weekend) and the rest of staff followed suit. I would recommend this little gem to anyone. Thank you all for all you do and continue to keep up the good work.

Even as an advocate for my family member stopping by pretty much daily I cant get them to give her the care she needs. I can only imagine how they ignore those who dont have anyone fighting for them. [review] => I had the opportunity of visiting a relative at Monroe Rehabilitation Center and I am beyond grateful for the love and care they provide. The staff was all friendly and very helpful. The facility was clean and the atmosphere was very welcoming. I am beyond satisfied at how they make the residents feel and make it as homely as possible during their stay here. From the moment I stepped in the place, where I was greeted by Aja until the moment I left, being offered a kind gesture by the nursing stuff... I knew that regardless of how long the visit there would be, by choosing this facility we were making the best decision. If ever looking for a happy and loving home away from home while having to make a decision for self or a loved one please consider this location... I promise you won’t regret it!

I could not believe the horrendous odors when I first walked in the door. The rooms are small, they have heating/air units like hotel rooms. These units are absolutely disgusting if not properly cleaned and filters changed in a consistent manner. They carry harmful bacteria and toxins which transfer into the air.The one in his room had a dirty bandage stuck in it. The nursing staff was a joke. Very rude and mean. One of the nurses was so mean to a patient right in front of me. I was flabbergasted! My husband is tube fed currently and he was given no water for 2 days! His feeding tube was leaking and went all over him twice. I waited 20 minutes for a nurse to come clean him up and check out the situation and ended up having to find someone to help us find HIS nurse. The environment is noisy and disorganized. My husband requires a very calm, quiet environment due to his stroke. He was agitated and cried the whole time he was there; 2 days too long! TV's blaring in about every room, patients screaming out for help, the list of wrongs is endless. He had to be taken to the hospital after a little less than 48 hrs there and ended up that had double pneumonia! He arrived there in great condition, no cough, congestion, and making progress. Please advocate for your loved one and personally look over the facility you are considering FULLY. Read reviews but base your opinion of the place on what you personally see. Talk to the staff, ask questions and make all of your concerns and expectations known up-front. Don't leave your loved one alone for long periods of time. Check on them and know what is going on. Places like this need to be shut down. Report abuse and take a stand, PLEASE.

REVIEWS
Monroe Rehab is helping my mother recover from breaking her hip. They have been kind and responsive in the nine months she has been there. With their support she is getting close to being able to move to a less intensive (AKA not skilled nursing) facility.
A special shout-out to the physical and occupational therapists. They have pushed my Mom when needed and advocated for her throughout.
She has been in four other facilities since breaking the hip and it is here that she has been most comfortable. I'm grateful for the care she has received at Monroe Rehab.

I had heard mixed reviews about Monroe rehabilitation but I'm so glad we chose this facility for my families care. The care he received was phenomenal. The entire staff, excluding a few assistants on night shift, were kind, compassionate and willing to help in any way. The unit manager. Rossi, was absolutely wonderful. I can't tell you how much she went out of her way to answer our questions and go above and beyond. We couldn't have gotten better care here. Don't hesitate to place your family member here.
